Spinal decompression works best for certain kinds of back pain. If you recognise yourself below, it is worth a free consultation.
Not suitable where there is a spinal fracture, moderate to severe bone loss, a tumour in or near the spine, an active infection, or pregnancy. Recent or mild pain is better served by our physiotherapy team first.
Back pain is our team’s specialty, not one service on a list. That focus is why people who have been everywhere else end up at Yorkville.

The Atlas program combines muscle release, laser and decompression, together in one session, each adjusted every session to make relief last.
Deep tissue release, so your back stops guarding.
Class 4 laser, the strongest therapeutically available, to calm inflammation and ease pain around the disc.
Force set from your own measurements. Never a preset.

Decompression on the Triton DTS 6E takes pressure off the discs and nerves. Around it, your plan combines the most effective treatments we have: Class 4 laser, hands-on muscle release and physiotherapy, all working together.
Spinal decompression is not a general back treatment. It is aimed at specific problems, and these are the ones we see most.
The soft centre of a spinal disc pushes against, or through, its outer wall and can press on the nerve running beside it.
Decompression gently separates the vertebrae to lower the pressure inside that disc and ease the load on the nerve.
Pain, pins and needles or numbness that travels from the low back into the buttock and down the leg, usually from a nerve irritated at the spine.
The source is treated, not the place it hurts. Decompression targets the disc or joint doing the compressing.
Discs lose height and water content with age and load, so the segment carries force differently and the joints around it take more of it.
Decompression is used to unload the segment while the muscle work rebuilds what supports it.
The space around the spinal cord or the nerve roots narrows. Walking and standing upright are usually harder, sitting or leaning forward usually easier.
Decompression aims to create room through the narrowed segment. It does not suit every presentation, which is exactly what the assessment is for.
Back pain that has lasted longer than three months, often without one clear cause, and keeps coming back after treatments that only helped for a while.
Decompression takes load off the discs and joints under strain, and the muscle release and laser in the same session settle the tissue around them.

I reached out to the clinic as a last resort before exploring surgical consultation for my lower back pain and numbness in my leg. 20 years of low back pain and now leg numbness were gone after 3 sessions!! It has exceeded my expectations and has given me functional mobility back! I have 4 bulged discs impacting my nerve roots and was out of options until I started treatment with the Atlas program.
This is my first review ever. I decided to get an assessment on this clinic after reading all the good comments on the web from other clients, and all I can say is THANK YOU. I came to the clinic with back and sciatica pain and, after being evaluated by the chiropractor and getting my first session on the spinal decompression bed, I was able to walk and sleep comfortably again. Dr. Chohan, Dr. Kyle and Kate are just amazing!
I am so glad I found Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic. Dr Chohan is extremely knowledgeable in treating back pain such as sciatica and disc degeneration which I have. The Atlas program helped remove the pain and the excruciating pain is gone. Personalized approach and long term solution. I don’t want surgery so I needed to find a treatment that works. Also when you walk into the clinic Pooja always greats you with a warm smile.
I had a great time in the program, staff were excellent and very nice, the facilities were fabulous, but most importantly the 2 months of treatments decreased the pain in my lower back (due to a bulging disc) by 99%. The other 1% pain reduction is up to me as I continue to do the exercises that were specifically designed for me at the clinic. I'm very grateful to be mostly pain free and on the track to staying that way!
In search to find a new Chiropractor with spinal decompression treatments, I was pleased to find this clinic. From the moment I walked in I experienced nothing but clarity and professionalism throughout the entire visit. In hopes to get away from traditional adjustment tables that I’ve been using over the years, I was surprised at how different and effective the spinal decompression system works.
I was suffering from constant low back pain due to slipped L5S1 on and off for years. I had tried chiro, stretching, mobility work etc. After seeing doctor Chohan I am pain free. The combination of laser, ice, soft tissue, decompression and physiotherapy will get the back to a place it can strengthen and maintain no-pain. If you’re suffering from back pain please reach out!
Dr Chohan and his staff have been incredible - always friendly and helpful, and I feel like my back issue has been dealt with very effectively with a combo on new treatments (laser, massage, spinal decompression and exercise recommendations). It’s great to have a program for my back that will keep it heathy for years to come. Thank you Dr C and team!!
I found this clinic in a search through the website, for my condition due to sciatica. I am receiving physical therapy treatment followed by spinal decompression. I can say that the pain has decreased considerably so far, I have also decreased the amount of medication I was initially taking for the pain. I must add that Rachana is very professional and her treatment protocol is easy to follow. Thanks for finally getting some relief!
Dr. Chohan is a true miracle worker. I have dealt with lower back pain for the past two decades and have tried everything you could think of. Dr Chohan has got me back to doing all the activities I have been missing out on for the past 20 years including running and swimming. The whole team at Yorkville sports med took exceptional care of me, from my first appointment to walking out the door pain free at my last appointment.

I came to this clinic 4 weeks ago with a lower back pain. I was diagnosed with piriformis syndrome. Dr. Shohan treated me twice a week. After 3rd treatment I felt the difference. I felt that the pain decreased by 75%.Doing what he told me to do at home stretching and putting cold compressed helps a lot to decreased the pain. I would say I am now feeling 90 percent better and the pain is lesser 9 out of 10.
I can’t say enough good things about Yorkville Sports Medicine Centre. I came to them while dealing with a painful herniated disc, and from day one, their team made me feel supported, understood, and hopeful about recovery. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate.

Excellent experience start to finish at the Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic. I started going to treat a nagging pain in my lower back caused from improper lifting and overuse. Within three weeks of treatment, the pain was greatly reduced and I was able to resume my active lifestyle. I can’t thank the staff and Dr. Chohan enough for all of their help!
I can't recommend Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic enough! I went in with debilitating lower back pain and Dr. Chohan was incredibly quick to diagnose my issue. He provided a comprehensive treatment plan and exercises that significantly alleviated my pain and boosted my recovery. Not long after, I returned with intense knee pain, and once again, Dr. Chohan delivered the same high level of care and treatment.
The overall presentation of the clinic is impeccable and far more impressive than any other clinic in the area. There is a high degree of cleanliness as well as being fit with the most up to date equipment. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating to your needs with my favorite being Dr. Chohan.
I had severe back pain from my detailing work, and after just 1–2 sessions with Dr. Chohan, I felt a huge improvement. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and takes the time to understand the root cause of the problem. His treatment was effective and gave me real relief, not just temporary comfort. The clinic environment is clean and welcoming as well. I highly recommend him to anyone dealing with muscle pain or injuries.
I’ve had 2 separate herniated injuries, and both times I was able to get it treated effectively and efficiently at Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic. The staff are amazing, they ask the right questions, and are very friendly people. The equipment and rooms are well sanitized too. It’s a welcoming environment, I’m really glad I have this place for when I’m hurt, I don’t plan on going somewhere else.
I went to the Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic with a variety of symptoms related to lower back, hips and groin. Dr, Chohan and his excellent team were able to quickly provide a diagnosis and construct a comprehensive treatment plan. The plan includes chiropractic care (Dr. C), massage therapy (Cecilia), and physiotherapy (Rachana). Halfway through the 6-week plan I am already seeing significant improvement.
I started physio with Kayo because I was dealing with lower back pain from sitting for long periods of time. Overall, my experience was amazing. He correctly identified the root of my issues and provided me with treatment to remedy it, while being honest and transparent throughout the whole process. The treatment has been helping a lot and I have felt significant improvements.
Yorkville sports Medicine clinic is one of the best clinics that I have visited. I had extruciating back pain that Derrick Chao had resolved. Brenda and Derrick Chao went above and beyond to help me, they were proffessional and compassionate. I highly this clinic. Thank you Brenda and Derrick for getting me better.
I first went to Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic for a massage to address severe lower back pain. My first session with Derek provided immediate relief. He's an excellent RMT - I've found his treatments to be very thorough and individualized, and he gave great advice for how I could continue to recover and avoid issues in the future.
I can't recommend this physiotherapy clinic enough! I had been struggling with lower back pain for a while, and working with my therapist (Ana) has truly improved my quality of life. She's a fantastic professional—knowledgeable, caring, and incredibly effective. Ana developed a personalized treatment plan for me, combining different therapies that we worked on weekly.
I was fortunate enough to find this clinic after a back/disc injury at the end of October and went regularly in November and December for treatment. Kayo is a very knowledgeable physiotherapist who took the time to explain my injury and answer any questions I had along the way, while putting together a comprehensive treatment/recovery program to rehab things back to normal.

Your program is priced on the care, time and effort it takes to run the full program, and it is designed to be more reasonable than booking the same services one at a time, without a plan. Payment plans start from $127 a month, most extended health plans cover part of the cost, and we bill your insurer directly. You get the exact cost at your free consultation, based on your condition, before anything starts. Most people find it reasonable for the amount of care it includes, especially next to what years of back pain have already cost them.
Because no $47 visit is going to fix your back pain, and anyone who has already tried physio, chiro or injections knows it. We do not sell discounted first visits. Your consultation is free, so we can give you an honest picture of what it will take to treat your back properly, and what that will cost. We are focused on outcomes, not on getting you in the door.
Both are computer-controlled decompression tables. We chose the Triton DTS 6E because it is one of the newest decompression systems available, built on what the industry learned from earlier tables, and it is serviced and updated regularly by its manufacturer. The table is also only one part of your program. Around it you get hands-on muscle release, Class 4 laser, physiotherapy and a back pain bootcamp of exercise and mobility work, to settle your pain and strengthen your back so it is less likely to return.
Your consultation is free, so there is nothing to claim. If we recommend treatment after that, coverage depends on your benefits plan and the provider delivering your care. Direct billing is available and our team walks you through it before you decide anything.
Yes. Your consultation is free, with no limit and nothing you have to qualify for. You leave with real information about your situation whether or not you go any further.
No. You do not need a referral from your doctor.
Two to three months on average. We design your program around your condition and how your back is today, and your clinician explains the plan, and how often to come in, before you start.
Our program does not include supplements. If injections and prescription medication have not settled your pain, we do not believe any supplement will do significant healing.
Bring whatever you have. If imaging is required before a clinical decision can be made, your clinician will tell you at the assessment.
That is common and it is not a problem. Mention it on your call. In many cases that care continues alongside or ahead of anything we recommend.
Your clinician will explain why and direct you to the care appropriate for your stage, either within Yorkville Sports Medicine or elsewhere.
A call with our team to talk through your back pain and see if we can help. No obligation either way.
